Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about building and maintaining a WordPress website for your Australian small business. Can’t find your answer? Get in touch – we’re happy to help.

GENERAL

Website SOS is an Australian business, and we work with small businesses right across the country – from Melbourne and Sydney to regional areas. Because everything is done online, your location doesn’t matter. We communicate by phone and email and deliver everything digitally.

Once we receive your completed order form, logo, and any content you want to include, we typically have your website ready for review within 5-7 business days. The total timeline depends on how quickly you can supply your content and how many rounds of feedback are needed.

We ask you to provide the core information about your business – what you do, your services, your contact details, and any photos or a logo. This ensures your website accurately reflects your business. We can tidy up and format the copy, but we don’t write the content from scratch as part of the standard package. If you need copywriting, contact us and we can discuss options.

We accept bank transfer (EFT) or Stripe. A 50% deposit is required to begin a new website build, with the remaining balance payable within 10 days of commencement and prior to launch.

No, our prices are exclusive of GST. GST will be added to your invoice at the standard Australian rate of 10%.

WEBSITES

Your one-page website package includes 12 months of fast, reliable Australian-based hosting. This means your website is stored on servers located in Australia, which helps with page load speeds for local visitors. After the first year, hosting can be renewed – contact us for current renewal pricing.

Yes, WordPress allows you to log in and make basic changes like updating text or swapping images. However, if you’d prefer not to manage this yourself – or if you need more complex changes – our ad hoc website work service is ideal. For peace of mind around security and updates, our maintenance packages keep everything running smoothly in the background.

Yes. All websites we build are fully mobile-responsive, meaning they automatically adjust to look great on smartphones, tablets, and desktop screens. This is a standard inclusion in every package, not an optional extra.

Our one-page website packages are designed as single-page sites. If you find your business growing and you need a full multi-page website, we recommend our sister business Web Design By The Bay, which specialises in larger multi-page WordPress sites.

A domain name is available as an optional add-on during your website order. We can register a .com.au or .com domain for 2 years on your behalf. If you already own a domain, we can connect it to your new website – just let us know during the onboarding process.

We offer 6 professionally designed templates that you can preview on our One-Page Website page. Each template is customised with your logo, brand colours, text, and images – so while the layout stays the same, the final result looks uniquely yours.

If payment isn’t received for your hosting renewal at the end of your first year, your website will go offline. We send renewal invoices a month before the hosting is due to expire.

HOSTING & TECHNICAL

Our hosting infrastructure is based in Australia. Australian-hosted websites typically load faster for local visitors and can be a positive signal for local SEO, as Google considers server location as one of many ranking factors.

PHP is the programming language that powers WordPress. Older versions of PHP are eventually retired by their developers, meaning they no longer receive security patches – which leaves your website vulnerable to attacks. As part of our Most Popular maintenance package, we check and update the PHP version running on your hosting to ensure it stays current and secure.

We don’t offer email hosting directly, but we recommend setting up a basic Microsoft 365 account for professional email (e.g. yourname@yourbusiness.com.au). We’re happy to assist you with the setup as an add-on service – just ask when you get in touch.

A Google Business Profile is a free listing that appears when people search for your business name or your type of business on Google Search and Google Maps. It shows your contact details, opening hours, and reviews. For local Australian businesses, it’s one of the most effective free tools to get found online. We can set this up for you as an optional add-on to your website package.

SEO & AI

AI search tools increasingly pull answers from well-structured websites with clear, question-based content. Having a fast, mobile-friendly WordPress site with helpful content – like this FAQ page – significantly improves your chances of being referenced by AI-powered search tools. If you need your website found in AI searches, please call us to enquire about this service.

The most effective things you can do are: (1) set up and maintain a Google Business Profile, (2) make sure your website is fast and mobile-friendly, (3) include your suburb and state naturally in your website content, (4) collect genuine Google reviews from happy customers, and (5) keep your site updated and secure.

Generally, yes – more quality content gives search engines more to index and rank. This is one reason why multi-page websites tend to rank better than one-page sites over time. However, a well-optimised one-page website with a clear focus keyword, fast loading speeds, and strong local signals can still perform very well – especially if your competition in the local area is low.

WORKING WITH US

To build your one-page website we’ll need: your business name, ABN, contact details, your logo (or let us know if you need one quoted), your brand colours if you have them, the text content for each section of your site, and any photos you’d like to use. If you don’t have photos, we include 2 stock images in the standard package with additional images available as an add-on.

We work closely with you through the review process to make sure the finished site meets your expectations. Because the 50% deposit covers the work already done, it is non-refundable once work has commenced. If you have concerns at any stage, we encourage you to raise them early so we can address them before final delivery.

Yes, as long as it’s a WordPress website. Our website maintenance packages and ad hoc work services are available for any WordPress site, not just ones we’ve built ourselves. We’ll need administrator access to your WordPress dashboard to get started.

You can contact us by phone on 0419 595 490 or via email at enquiries@websitesos.com.au. Clients on a maintenance package receive priority support for urgent issues. If a problem occurs as a result of changes made by your staff and assistance is required to resolve it, we can provide a quote for the necessary repairs. For ad hoc clients, we will review the issue and supply a quote for the fix as promptly as possible.
